Things to see and do in the Grampians Region

There is a wide range of outdoor recreational activities within the Grampians National Park such as bushwalking, rock climbing, abseiling, fishing, golf, canoeing, horse riding and 4WD tours. Then when you are done with your activities, it’s time to relax and have a hot meal at one of the famous eateries in Halls Gap.

There are more than a dozen wineries in the local region where winemakers are constantly producing new varieties of fine wines from their very own crops that thrive in the Grampians climate. Make your way along the many roads through the Grampians region and take in the spectacular views and enjoy a tasting or two along the way.

Things to Do in Halls Gap

Halls Gap Zoo

You will be amazed by the varying species of mammals, birds and reptiles kept at the largest regional zoo in Victoria, The Halls Gap Zoo. The grounds and enclosures are all maintained to a very high standard and all are clearly labelled with new signage and information boards. Over 150 species call the Halls Gap Zoo home, there are meekats, giraffes, deer, kangaroos, koalas, tasmanian devils, snakes, crocodiles, turtles, ducks, owls, monkeys and the list goes on.
The Zoo is open every day (except Christmas Day) and there are opportunities for getting ‘up close and personal’ with some of the animals as well as being able to feed them.

Grampians Adventure Golf

For mini golf lovers, you can’t go past this magnificent 18 hole mini golf course that was designed around the Grampians region with holes such as ‘The Pinnacle’ and ‘The Nerve Test’. The course is surrounded by beautiful plants, bridges, streams and waterfalls and is fun for all ages.

Brambuk - National Park & Cultural Centre

Start exploring by visiting Brambuk the National Park and Cultural Centre, where you will discover the Park's exceptional environment and Aboriginal Culture with many informative displays. It is there that you will be able to find more information about the parks walking tracks including; Reids lookout, The Balconies, Boroka Look out, McKenzie Falls, The Pinnacle and other attractions in the National Park.  

Whilst there, visit the Gariwerd Dreaming Theatre and discover more about the cultural heritage of the Park.  Afterwards you can sit and relax in the café and browse the many souvenirs that are available.

Halls Gap Adventure Playground

In the centre of Halls Gap (opposite the shops and ice cream shop) is where you will find a very well laid out adventure playground that will keep your children entertained for hours. 

Halls Gap Swimming Pool

The Halls Gap Swimming Pool is located on School Road, right in the town centre and opposite the Stoney Creek Shops. Open every day.... Weekend hours are 7am to 7pm, and weekdays it will open from 7-9am for lap swimming and then 1-6pm for general swimming. For more infromation you can call the pool on 5356 4313.

Self Drives

 Take a scenic drive from Halls Gap to Pomonal and through to Ararat and along the way visit The Gap Winery, the Lavendar Farm and then take a tour Through the old Ararat Goal and return home via Stawell and stop in at Great Western and visit the Cellar Door of Seppelt Winery before returning to Halls Gap Victoria.

Other day trips include taking the scenic road through the Grampians Ranges down to the quaint little town of Dunkeld.
You can pamper yourself with a day spa treatment, a facial or a massage from one of the many therapists that operate in the district and end the day at the award winning Royal Mail Hotel for a five star dinner.

Seppelt Winery

 Located on the highway at Great Western.  Tours are conducted here daily in the historic underground cellars as well as the Cellar door being open every day. This winery is also a function centre with accommodation options available.

Whilst in Halls Gap, visit the Stony Creek Village where you will find a variety of specialty and souvenir shops. There is also a post office, newsagency, general store and fuel outlet in the main street of Halls Gap.

The Gap Vineyard

Located at 4113 Ararat-Halls Gap Road, just a five minute drive out of Halls Gap. This winery specialises in Shiraz, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as displaying work from local artists.

The Cellar Door is Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm | School Holidays Open 7 Days 10am to 5pm.
