As you can see from the map, the Grampians (you can browse Grampians accommodation) is a fantastic area for producing wine. There are a number of Grampians wineries scattered throughout the National Park and the surrounding towns including Ararat, Horsham and Halls Gap. It is a notable wine growing region with a colourful history dating back to the 1860s. Their specialty is their table wines with Rieslings and Shiraz being the most well known varietals. You can also expect to sample Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, Merlots, and Cabernet Sauvignons meaning a vast diversity of wines and tasting notes to experience.
Many people when they visit the Grampians choose to stay in Halls Gap (you can browse our extensive range of Halls Gap accommodation). For these people The Gap Vineyard is right on their doorsteps. Established in 1969, you can find it on Ararat-Halls gap Road where you are likely to be greeted by Laura on the cellar door and can taste the majority of the varietals mentioned above. You can expect to pay between $15 and $55 for their wines. If going in a bit group we advise that you give them a call first on 03 5356 4252. They are open 10-5 from Wednesday to Sunday.
Ararat is also a hub of activity in terms of Grampians Wineries. You can either visit the Fratin Bros (36 Byron Road), Kimbarra Wines (422 Barkly Street), or Montara Wines (76 Chalambar Road) when in town. Or you could alternatively make a day of it and visit all three of them.
Lower Norton, to the South-West of Horsham is also a great place for wines with both Norton Estate Wines (758 Plush Hannans Rd) and the Barangaroo Boutique Wines (928 Plush-Hannans Rd) well worth a visit.
